Multiple Groups is often the way to go - Credit Madnzany

The latest version of Windows Live Messenger makes it easier to chat to numerous friends on your contacts list. Create a "group" of up to 20 friends and you'll be chatting on a bigger scale in no time.

What do you do when fellow FIFA World Cup fans are all over Messenger and you all want to chat about the dubious penalty that cost Australia a place in the final? Or how do you get all your Messenger friends to agree on which blockbuster 3-D movie to see this Friday night? Whenever you need to talk to more than one friend at a time, there's a new feature on Messenger that may come in handy.

Jump on Messenger and create a "group" of up to 20 contacts with ease. This feature also gives you the ability to add one contact to numerous groups. Let's say your best friend is in your "school mates group", but you also catch up with them once a week for a game of tennis, you can also add them to your "tennis club group".

The groups tool is designed to make chatting with multiple contacts easier and faster. Create custom groups from your current contacts list and get your message out there to the masses.

Just follow the four easy steps shown below:

1. Click the Contacts icon

Select Create a group from the menu.

2. Name your group

Type the name of the group in the text field and click Next.

3. Add your contacts

Add members by choosing them from your contact list or by typing in their e-mail address.

4. Invite members

Once you've added your contacts, Messenger will send an invitation to them so they can join your group. You can also add a personal message to tell them about the group and every group gets its own web page and calendar.

Download the new Windows Live Messenger if you don't have it already.

hi
Awesome i want this
I agree - this would be fantastic if it could also be used for video... Does this mean that you can only do a group chat if all are online? If one is not online will it still work? And if they come online during the chat will they be able to enter it? Thanks AB
Agh! Why'd you sign me out of MSN just to see this page?? I was in the middle of a convo! ANOYED
oooowwww yerr
Will this feature work using audio and or video chat?
Great, however it will be fantastic to have a simmilar feature using video chat. Imagine yourself videochatting with 2,3 or even 4 friends at the same time.
